These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern the use of the website docpicks.com ("the Website") and the services offered on it, operated by Michael Walker, trading as DocPicks ("DocPicks", "we", "us"), a sole trader based in South Africa. By using the Website, you agree to these Terms.
What DocPicks is. DocPicks is an informational decision-support tool for South African community-service and internship doctors choosing a hospital placement. The Website provides a free public map and directory of hospital information, and a paid "personalised unlock" that lets registered users weight the factors that matter most to them and get a ranked hospital shortlist. DocPicks does not facilitate placement applications, placement swaps, or any transaction between users and hospitals, and is not affiliated with the National Department of Health, the HPCSA, the CMSA, or any university.
What you're buying. The price of the personalised unlock, and the length of time it gives you access for, are shown on the checkout page before you pay and are confirmed in the receipt emailed to you. Those are the terms of your purchase. It is a once-off purchase — there's no subscription and no automatic renewal, and we won't charge you again for it. When the period you bought comes to an end, the paid features switch off and your account returns to the free tier. You can buy another access period at any time, at the price displayed then. We run promotional prices from time to time; a promotional price applies only to purchases made while it's displayed.
Delivery. The paid personalised unlock is a digital service. Access activates on your account immediately once PayFast confirms payment, and a receipt is emailed to you. No physical goods are shipped.
Who it's for. The services on this site are intended for use by clients in South Africa.
Your account. Your account is personal and non-transferable, and may be used in one place at a time. Signing in elsewhere will end your other session. Sessions also end automatically after a period of inactivity, and in any case twelve hours after you sign in, even if you've been using the site the whole time — signing back in takes a moment and doesn't shorten the access period you've paid for. Sharing your account credentials terminates access without refund.
Refunds. See our separate Refund Policy for when a refund applies.
Privacy. DocPicks takes reasonable steps to protect your personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). See our Privacy Policy for the full detail.
Payment. Payment is made via the methods PayFast makes available (which may include Visa, Mastercard, instant EFT, and others PayFast supports from time to time).
Card security. Card transactions are acquired via PayFast (Pty) Ltd, an approved payment gateway for all South African acquiring banks. PayFast uses strict encryption (SSL) for card transactions, and no card details are ever entered into or stored on the DocPicks website. You can view PayFast's security certificate and policy at payfast.io.
Your details vs. your card details. Your account details (display name, email address, home province and saved preferences) are stored by DocPicks separately from your card or payment details, which you enter directly on PayFast's own secure payment page — DocPicks never sees or stores them.
Where this operates. The merchant outlet country is South Africa, and all transactions are in South African Rand (ZAR).
Responsibility. DocPicks takes responsibility for the personalised unlock, customer service and support, dispute resolution, and access to what you've purchased.
